Fink Voices Disappointment Over Cuffs Run Decision
HARRISBURG —Yesterday, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) announced its approval of the preliminary permit application for the construction of a hydroelectric pump storage facility at Cuffs Run in Chanceford Township. Rep. Wendy Fink (R-Red Lion), who represents the municipality as part of District 94, issued the following statement.
“I remain adamantly opposed to the proposed project at Cuffs Run,” said Fink. “This project will jeopardize hundreds of acres of precious farmlands, a regional scenic trail, forested lands and essentially evict multi-generational residents from their homes to construct this facility. I believe this is unacceptable and have been passionately advocating for those farmers and landowners.
“To combat the proposal, my office encouraged and even helped residents submit public comments regarding the project. I collected well over 100 petition signatures to stop the Cuffs Run project. It disappoints me that FERC prioritized its own plans over the concerns of my constituents, people who will be directly impacted if this proposal comes to fruition.
“The Cuffs Run project, if permitted to advance, would undo more than $100 million in investments to preserve this scenic area. Cuffs Run is a prime example of the region’s rich agricultural heritage, and it draws visitors and outdoor recreation enthusiasts to the area. It disappoints me that FERC is willing to make these sacrifices in the name of “Green Energy” and I will continue to stand firm in opposition to the project.
“I appreciate each of my constituents who took the time to leave comments with FERC, and I am grateful to my colleagues in York and Lancaster counties who unified to fight this issue. Our work is not done. It is imperative we continue to make our voices heard on this important issue for our community, our farmers and our region. I am disappointed, but not discouraged. We will continue to fight.”
